Destructo Trucks

A Brand Built by Skateboarding

Founded in 1996 by professional skateboarder Arto Saari, Destructo Trucks came from a simple idea: trucks should be built by people who actually skate.

At the time, skateboarding was exploding. Street skating was pushing into bigger rails, longer ledges, and rougher terrain than ever before. Boards were evolving. Wheels were evolving. But many skaters still felt trucks could be lighter, stronger, and more refined.

Saari wanted to change that.

Instead of just putting his name on a product, he helped build a company focused on engineering stronger and lighter trucks for modern street skating.

The Late 90s Skateboarding Era

The late 1990s and early 2000s were one of the most influential eras in skateboarding history. Street skating was progressing rapidly, and companies were experimenting with new materials and designs.

Destructo entered the scene with trucks designed to be:

  • Lighter than traditional trucks

  • Durable enough for heavy street skating

  • Stable for manuals, slides, and technical tricks

Many models featured hollow kingpins and weapons-grade aluminum construction, reducing weight while maintaining strength.

These design choices helped Destructo earn a reputation among skaters looking for something different from the traditional truck brands dominating the market.

The Team

Over the years, Destructo trucks have been ridden by a range of respected skateboarders known for their street skating.

Notable riders include:

Arto Saari
Founder of Destructo and one of the most stylish street skaters of the late 90s and early 2000s. Known for parts in Flip Skateboards videos such as Sorry and Really Sorry.

Daewon Song

A creative street skater with mind-bending tricks.

Louie Barletta

A quirky and innovative skater who brings fun to every session.

Chad Muska

An iconic figure in skateboarding, known for his big gaps and stylish flair.

Kareem Campbell
A street skating pioneer who had signature Destructo trucks during his career.

TJ Rogers
Canadian pro skater known for smooth technical skating and powerful style.

Jake Johnson
A respected New York street skater known for raw city skating and classic style.

Sammy Winter
Creative street skater and filmer who has been associated with the brand.

Tony Cervantes
Long-time Destructo rider with a strong street skating background.

These riders represent the kind of skating Destructo has always been tied to: real street skating, not marketing hype.

Strength, Simplicity, and Reliability

One reason Destructo trucks gained a following was their balance of performance and durability.

They also come with a lifetime guarantee, reflecting the brand’s focus on long-lasting gear.

The Brand Today

Over the years, Destructo expanded distribution and became available in more stores than many core skate brands.

Because of this, some skaters mistakenly assume the company disappeared or became a “big box” brand.

But Destructo never went away.

The brand still exists as a skateboard truck manufacturer with roots tied directly to professional skateboarding and the street skating culture that shaped it.

What started with a pro skater looking for better trucks in 1996 is still part of skateboarding today.

Why Skaters Still Ride Destructo

For many skaters, Destructo trucks remain appealing for the same reasons they did decades ago:

  • Lightweight construction

  • Strong grind durability

  • Stable geometry for street skating

  • A legacy built by real skateboarders

In a world where skate companies come and go, Destructo stands as a reminder of a time when brands were started by skaters simply trying to build better gear for the streets.
